What is Even, odd?

A number is even when it can be split into two equal whole parts — its units digit is 00, 22, 44, 66 or 88. Otherwise it is odd (units digit 11, 33, 55, 77 or 99).

Even numbers split into two equal rows; odd numbers always leave one alone.
