What is Point of presence?

A point of presence (PoP) of a network is a place, usually racks in a carrier-neutral data centre, where the network’s owner (a venue, a carrier) accepts customers’ connections and carries their traffic to its own sites, so that a customer can reach a distant venue with a cross-connect in a building near it.
