CoachA recall is the lender’s demand for the return of lent securities, typically because it has sold them or wants to vote. If the borrower’s broker cannot replace the loan from another lender and the borrower does not return the shares in time, the lender (or the broker) executes a buy-in: it buys the shares in the market at the borrower’s expense.
