O que é Simultaneous multithreading, heterogeneous cores?

In simultaneous multithreading (SMT, hyper-threading) one core runs two hardware threads, sharing its execution units, caches and predictors; each appears to the operating system as a CPU. A processor has heterogeneous cores when its cores differ in design, typically large performance cores and small efficient cores, with different speeds for the same code.

The clock each of the laptop’s 22 virtual CPUs runs a chain of dependent register additions at (one addition a cycle), best of 15 runs. The hypervisor hides which physical core runs which virtual CPU; the six performance and ten efficient cores do not appear as groups. Measured on a laptop (Intel Core Ultra 7 155H) under WSL2, no isolated cores, the machine otherwise idle. Data: bench_cpu.py.
