What is Conversion?

Definition 5.3 University Chemistry — Year 2 · Chapter 5 — Continuous Reactors and Industrial Processes

The conversion of reactant A is X=(FA,0−FA)/FA,0X = (F_{A,0} - F_A)/F_{A,0}, where FA,0F_{A,0} and FAF_A are the molar flow rates of A entering and leaving the reactor; for a batch reactor, X=(nA,0−nA)/nA,0X = (n_{A,0} - n_A)/n_{A,0}. At constant density, X=1−cA/cA,0X = 1 - c_A/c_{A,0}.
