An iron–sulfur cluster is a group of iron ions bridged by sulfide ions and bound to the protein by cysteine thiolates: [2 Fe-2 S]\ce{[2Fe-2S]}, [3 Fe-4 S]\ce{[3Fe-4S]} and the cubane-like [4 Fe-4 S]\ce{[4Fe-4S]}.
