什么是 Backstripping?

Definition 16.3 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · 第 16 章 — Sedimentary Basins Compared

Backstripping is the reconstruction of the tectonic subsidence of a basin through time: the units of a well are removed one by one, from the youngest, the remaining ones are decompacted at each step, and the isostatic effect of the sediment and water load is removed to give the depth at which the basement would have stood under water alone.

Backstripping of an invented well with four units (data in the weekend problem): basement depth with the sediment as it was at each time, and tectonic subsidence, with the curve of the stretching model fitted to the subsidence at the end of rifting ().

Backstripping the invented well at 150\, Ma (depths to scale): the four units today; the sand alone at the end of rifting, decompacted at the surface under 200\, m of water; the same lithosphere loaded by water alone, whose basement stands higher because water is lighter than sediment.
