什么是 Compositional zoning?

Definition 8.14 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · 第 8 章 — Magmatic Differentiation

A crystal of a solid solution shows compositional zoning when its composition varies from core to rim, recording the changing liquid from which successive layers grew. Zoning is normal when the rim is richer in the low-temperature component (sodium in plagioclase), reverse when it is richer in the high-temperature one, and oscillatory when it alternates.

Plagioclase crystallising from a liquid of 50\,\% anorthite, computed on the loop of Bowen (1913). In fractional crystallisation the successive layers of the crystals, from core (left) to rim (right), grow ever more sodic, and the liquid reaches albite when about 82\,\% has crystallised; in equilibrium crystallisation the crystals stay uniform and end with the composition of the liquid they came from.
