A cosmogenic nuclide is a nuclide made in a mineral at or near the surface by the secondary particles of cosmic rays. Its production rate is the number of atoms made per unit mass of mineral and per year. The exposure age of a surface is the time since it was first exposed to cosmic rays, found from the concentration of a cosmogenic nuclide.
