Crustal thickening কী?

Definition 14.3 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · অধ্যায় 14 — Collision and Andean Belts Compared

Crustal thickening is the increase of the thickness of the crust of a region, by shortening of the crust itself, by addition of magma from below, or by other crust thrust or flowing beneath it.

Swath profiles across the two plateaus from ETOPO1 (nodes 0.1 apart): mean, maximum and minimum elevation of the nodes at each distance. Top: Himalaya and Tibet along 86 to 90 E. Bottom: Central Andes along 19 to 21 S, from the Pacific floor and the trench to the Chaco plain. The dashed lines mark the plateau, the stretch where the swath mean stays above 3000\, m, at the mean elevation over that stretch.
