The dark-matter halo of a galaxy is the roughly spherical distribution of dark matter in which its stars and gas are embedded, much larger and more massive than its visible components, and inferred from its gravity: from the rotation curve, from the motions of satellite galaxies and of halo stars, and from the bending of light.
