Darwin point কী?

Definition 17.7 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · অধ্যায় 17 — Oceanic Islands

The Darwin point of a hotspot chain is the place, and the time after the birth of the volcanoes, at which the upward growth of reefs, which slows down in cooler water, no longer makes up for the sinking of the islands. Atolls carried beyond it drown and become guyots.

Kure Atoll, the northernmost coral atoll, photographed by an astronaut from the International Space Station on 22 February 2004. The ring of reef, about ten kilometres across at most, encloses a lagoon; the only permanent island, Green Island, lies on the rim (right). NASA, public domain, via Wikimedia Commons.
