A depositional sequence is a succession of genetically related strata, without major break inside, bounded at its base and top by unconformities or by the conformities that continue them into the basin. Its bounding surface is the sequence boundary: an unconformity cut by exposure and erosion on the shelf during a fall of relative sea level, passing basinward into a correlative conformity.
