什么是 Finite rotation?

Definition 12.12 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 1 · 第 12 章 — Plate Kinematics on a Sphere

A finite rotation is the rotation of the sphere, given by a pole (latitude, longitude) and an angle, that carries a plate, or a piece of its edge, from its present position to its position at a given time relative to another plate. A positive angle turns anticlockwise seen from above the pole.

Closing the South Atlantic. South America (black outline) is carried back relative to Africa by two published finite rotations: to its position at 83.5\, Ma (pole 61.88 N, 34.26 W, angle 33.51; dashed) and at 120.6\, Ma, as the ocean began to open (pole 51.28 N, 33.67 W, angle 52.35; red). The dotted line is the path of Recife on its small circle about the older pole. Latitude and longitude are drawn as a square grid, which stretches shapes away from the equator. Coastlines: Natural Earth.
