The first-order sea-level cycle is the slowest part of the change of global sea level, on time scales of tens to hundreds of millions of years, set by the tectonics of the solid Earth rather than by ice.

Global sea level since 250\, Ma, as tabulated by Miller and others (2005): the cycle chart of Haq and others (1987) from the stratigraphy of many basins, and the sea level backstripped from coreholes of New Jersey, with estimated lowstands (Kominz and others 2008). Thick lines: 10-Myr running means, the first-order trend.
