Magmatic volatiles কী?

অন্য নাম: magmatic volatile · volatile exsolution · volatile saturation pressure

Definition 5.5 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · অধ্যায় 5 — Magmas and Their Emplacement

A magmatic volatile is a component of a magma that is dissolved in the melt at depth and forms a separate gas phase at low pressure: mainly water, then carbon dioxide, then sulfur species. Volatile exsolution is the separation of a volatile from the melt into bubbles of gas. The volatile saturation pressure of a melt is the pressure below which its dissolved volatiles exceed their solubility, so that a gas phase must form.

Solubility of water in basaltic and rhyolitic melts at 800 to 1200\, C against the water pressure: measurements compiled by Moore and others (1998), and least-squares square-root laws. At 100\, MPa, about 4\, km deep in the crust, a rhyolite can hold 4.4\,\% of water, a basalt 3.4\,\%.
