什么是 Melt fraction?

Definition 7.9 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · 第 7 章 — Melting the Mantle

The melt fraction FF of a partially molten rock is the mass of melt it has produced divided by its initial mass. Between the solidus (F=0F = 0) and the liquidus (F=1F = 1), the temperature on the melting surface is a function T(P,F)T(P, F).

Melt fraction of a column of dry peridotite rising without exchanging heat, from the onset of melting to the surface, computed by conserving entropy with the melting function of Katz and others (2003), for a rock with 15\,\% clinopyroxene. At 1450\, C the clinopyroxene is used up near 25\, km and the curve steepens.

A triangular melting region beneath a ridge (schematic, not to scale; in reality z_0 is ten times the crustal thickness). Mantle rising beneath the axis crosses its solidus at z_0, melts as it rises, and stops melting when its flow turns horizontal under the moving plates; the melt percolates up and towards the axis and builds the crust.
