The mid-Pleistocene transition is the change, from about $1\,250\,000$ to $700\,000$ years ago, from glacial cycles of about $41\,000$ years and small amplitude to quasi-periodic cycles of about $100\,000$ years and large amplitude, with thicker ice sheets, without any corresponding change in the orbital forcing.
