Ocean-floor metamorphism is the regional metamorphism of the oceanic lithosphere near spreading centres, by hot aqueous fluids circulating under steep geothermal gradients; recrystallisation is generally incomplete and temperature typically increases with depth. Serpentinisation is the hydration of olivine-rich rocks into serpentine.
