What is Radiogenic isotope tracer?

Definition 4.1 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · Chapter 4 — Isotope Geochemistry

A radiogenic isotope tracer is the ratio of a daughter isotope produced by a long-lived radioactive parent to a stable isotope of the same element, such as 87Sr/86Sr^{87}\mathrm{Sr}/^{86}\mathrm{Sr} or 143Nd/144Nd^{143}\mathrm{Nd}/^{144}\mathrm{Nd}, used to identify the source of a rock rather than to date it. The ratio of a reservoir grows at a rate set by its parent–daughter ratio, and so records the history of that ratio.
