What is Site-mixing activity model?

Definition 11.6 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 3 · Chapter 11 — Thermodynamics of Rocks

In a site-mixing activity model, the ions of a mineral mix at random on each crystallographic site, independently of the other sites. The ideal activity of an end member is then the product, over the sites, of the fraction of each site it fills raised to the number of such sites per formula unit: ai=∏sXs,i nsa_i = \prod_s X_{s,i}^{\,n_s}.
