A subsidence curve of a basin at a site is the graph of the depth of a reference surface, usually the basement or the base of the oldest unit, below sea level, against time. The total subsidence curve uses the sediment thickness as it was at each time, plus the water depth; the tectonic subsidence curve replaces the sediment by water and removes its isostatic effect.
