什么是 Supercontinent; supercontinent cycle?

又称: supercontinent · supercontinent cycle

Definition 15.6 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · 第 15 章 — Ancient Massifs and the Wilson Cycle

A supercontinent is a landmass that gathers most of the Earth’s continental crust into a single block. The supercontinent cycle is the episodic assembly of the continents into a supercontinent and its later break-up, repeated through Earth’s history.

Supercontinents through Earth’s history, from assembly to break-up as dated in a recent review: the bars span the quoted intervals (Ur is a single estimate), the dots their midpoints. Pannotia, Kenorland and Ur are debated. Time runs from left to right.
