Earth and Space Sciences · পরিভাষা

Supercontinent কী?

অন্য নাম: Pangaea

Definition 18.2 Primary & Middle School Earth and Space Sciences · অধ্যায় 18 — Plate Tectonics: The Moving Puzzle

A supercontinent is a single landmass made of all, or almost all, of the continents joined together. The last one, Pangaea (“all lands” in Greek), began to break up between about 225 and 200 million years ago.

The southern continents put back together. Each coloured band joins the places where one fossil species is found today: the land reptiles Cynognathus and Lystrosaurus, the freshwater reptile Mesosaurus and the fern Glossopteris. Separated, the continents scatter the bands; joined, the bands run on without a break. Map: U.S. Geological Survey, This Dynamic Earth (public domain).
