什么是 Trade winds, westerlies?

又称: trade winds · westerlies

Definition 28.13 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 1 · 第 28 章 — The General Circulation of the Atmosphere

The trade winds are the persistent surface winds that blow from the subtropical highs towards the equatorial low, turned by the Coriolis force into north-easterlies in the Northern Hemisphere and south-easterlies in the Southern. The westerlies are the prevailing winds from the west of the mid-latitudes, between about 35∘35{}^{\circ} and 60∘60{}^{\circ}. Poleward of them blow the polar easterlies.

Left: the surface winds of the three-cell circulation, turned to the right of their motion in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern, between the pressure belts. Right: the three cells of the Northern Hemisphere on a meridional section (height not to scale); the Southern Hemisphere is the mirror image. The trade winds are the return branch of the Hadley cell, the westerlies the surface branch of the Ferrel cell.
