什么是 Triple junction; stable triple junction?

又称: triple junction · stable triple junction

Definition 12.10 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 1 · 第 12 章 — Plate Kinematics on a Sphere

A triple junction is a point where three plates meet, and with them three plate boundaries, each a ridge (R), a trench (T) or a transform fault (F). A triple junction is stable if, as the plates move, it keeps the same geometry: the same three kinds of boundary meeting at the same angles.

A junction J of three ridges between plates A, B and C. (a) Map: each ridge (double line) spreads perpendicular to its axis (arrows). (b) Velocity space: each plate is a point; the side ab is the velocity of B relative to A, perpendicular to the ridge between them. The velocities of the junction that leave a symmetric ridge unchanged form the perpendicular bisector of the corresponding side (dashed); the three bisectors always meet, at j, the velocity of the junction.
