什么是 Upwelling, downwelling, coastal upwelling?

又称: upwelling · downwelling · coastal upwelling

Definition 29.7 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 1 · 第 29 章 — The Circulation of the Ocean

Upwelling is the rise of water from below into the surface layer of the ocean, to replace surface water carried away; downwelling is the sinking of surface water where it accumulates. Coastal upwelling occurs where a wind blowing along a coast drives an Ekman transport away from the shore: in the Northern Hemisphere, a wind with the coast on its left.

Coastal upwelling on the eastern side of an ocean in the Northern Hemisphere (schematic, depths not to scale). Left: a wind blowing towards the south along a coast that runs north–south, with the land to the east; the Ekman transport is 90 to the right of the wind, offshore. Right: the same seen in a vertical section; the water carried offshore in the Ekman layer is replaced from below, the isotherms rise towards the coast, and the cold water at the surface cools the air above it.
