In a coordinate system, the coordinates of the vector $\vect{AB}$ are the numbers describing the displacement:

\vect{AB}\,(x_B - x_A,\ y_B - y_A).

A vector $\vec u\,(a, b)$ moves every point $a$ units horizontally and $b$ units vertically.
