O que é Shrinkage estimator, James–Stein estimator?

Também chamado de: shrinkage estimator · James--Stein estimator

Definition 14.4 Quantitative Methods · Capítulo 14 — Bayesian Methods

A shrinkage estimator pulls a set of estimates toward a common target. For X∼N(θ,σ2Id)X \sim \mathcal N(\theta, \sigma^2I_d), the James–Stein estimator toward zero is (1−(d−2)σ2/∣X∣2)X\bigl(1 - (d - 2)\sigma^2/\lvert X\rvert^2\bigr)X; toward the grand mean Xˉ\bar X it is Xˉ+(1−(d−3)σ2/∑i(Xi−Xˉ)2)(X−Xˉ)\bar X + \bigl(1 - (d - 3)\sigma^2/\sum_i(X_i - \bar X)^2\bigr)(X - \bar X), and its positive part truncates the factor at zero.
