什么是 Head wave, crossover distance?

又称: head wave · crossover distance

Definition 9.3 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 1 · 第 9 章 — The Layered Earth

A head wave is the wave that travels along a boundary at the speed of the faster medium below it and leaves it upward at the critical angle. The crossover distance is the distance from the source beyond which the head wave arrives before the direct wave.

Refraction over a crust 35\, km thick, at 6.0\, km\, s-1, on a mantle at 8.0\, km\, s-1 ((a) at true scale). (a) The direct wave runs along the surface; the reflected wave drawn is the one that strikes the Moho at the critical angle, 48.6; the head wave runs along the Moho and returns at that angle. (b) Arrival times: the head wave appears at the critical distance, 79\, km, tangent to the reflection, and overtakes the direct wave at the crossover distance, 185\, km. The dotted extension gives the intercept time t_i = 7.7\, s.
