Ophitic texture, granoblastic texture কী?

অন্য নাম: ophitic texture · granoblastic texture

Definition 31.1 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 2 · অধ্যায় 31 — Field and Lab Methods II

An igneous rock has an ophitic texture when large pyroxene crystals enclose small, randomly oriented laths of plagioclase; the texture is typical of dolerite, gabbro and basalt. A metamorphic rock has a granoblastic texture when it is an aggregate of broadly equidimensional crystals of about the same size, in many cases anhedral, whose straight boundaries meet in threes at angles near 120∘120{}^{\circ}.

Two textures between crossed polars. Left: a single crystal of augite (blue and green) encloses laths of plagioclase striped by their twinning, the arrangement of an ophitic texture; field of view 7\, mm. Photograph Strekeisen, CC BY-SA 4.0 (Wikimedia Commons). Right: a garnet–mica schist. The garnet, black because it is isotropic, is a large crystal that grew in the solid state; inclusions of quartz cross it in trails, and the foliation of muscovite (bright colours), biotite (brown) and quartz (grey) bends around it.
