什么是 Pi-diagram, beta-axis？

The pi-diagram of a fold is the plot of the poles of the planes measured on its folded surface. For a cylindrical fold they fall on a great circle, the $\pi$-girdle; the pole of the girdle is the beta-axis, the estimate of the fold axis given by the measurements.
