What is Independent events?

Also known as: independence

Definition 32.7 High School Mathematics · Chapter 32 — Conditional Probability and Independence

Two events AA and BB are independent if

P(AB)=P(A)P(B).\P(A \cap B) = \P(A)\,\P(B) .

When P(B)>0\P(B) > 0, this is equivalent to PB ⁣(A)=P(A)\pcond{B}{A} = \P(A): knowing BB does not change the probability of AA.
