什么是 Hotspot?

Definition 19.14 Primary & Middle School Earth and Space Sciences · 第 19 章 — Volcanoes

A hotspot is a place, deep in the mantle, which stays hot for millions of years and keeps feeding magma to volcanoes at the surface, even far from the edges of the plates.

A plate moving over a hotspot (a drawing, not to scale; the islands in between are left out). The volcano over the hotspot is young and active; the plate carries the older ones away to the north-west, where they die, wear down and finally sink below the waves.
