Rigid plate কী?

Definition 13.1 High School Earth and Space Sciences · অধ্যায় 13 — Plates and Their Motions

A rigid plate is a piece of lithosphere that moves as a single block: the distances between points on it do not change, and its deformation is gathered in narrow zones along its boundaries.

A rigid plate on a sphere turns about an axis through the centre of the Earth. Points near the rotation pole move slowly, along small circles; points 90 from the pole move fastest (arrows: speeds to scale).

The velocities of points inside 16 plates, computed from their published rotation poles, in a frame in which the lithosphere as a whole does not turn. The Pacific, Nazca, Cocos, Australian and Indian plates move fastest; the Eurasian, North and South American and Antarctic plates slowly. Red arrow: the Pacific plate at Mauna Kea. Definition 12.1 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 1 · অধ্যায় 12 — Plate Kinematics on a Sphere

A rigid plate is a region of the lithosphere whose interior does not deform measurably: the distance between any two of its points stays constant. The relative motion of two plates is taken up along their common boundary, a narrow zone of faults, earthquakes and volcanoes.
