CoachA spectral lamp — a low-pressure gas excited by a discharge: sodium, mercury, neon — emits a line spectrum (Chapter 2): a few isolated wavelengths, nothing in between. A laser goes further: one single wavelength, monochromatic light, in one narrow beam.
