什么是 Mantle transition zone?

Definition 9.11 University Earth and Space Sciences — Year 1 · 第 9 章 — The Layered Earth

The mantle transition zone is the part of the mantle between the seismic discontinuities near 410 km410\,\mathrm{km} and 660 km660\,\mathrm{km} depth, in which olivine of the upper mantle is replaced by its denser polymorphs, wadsleyite and then ringwoodite. Above it is the upper mantle; below it the lower mantle, down to the core–mantle boundary.

The minerals of a peridotite mantle with depth, as volume fractions (schematic: the boundaries are drawn sharp, and the fractions are round values within the ranges quoted in the text). The composition does not change; the minerals do, at about 410, 520 and 660\, km.
