什么是 Quotient set?

又称: canonical projection

Definition 1.3 University Mathematics — Year 2 · 第 1 章 — Sets and Structures

Let R\mathcal{R} be an equivalence relation on EE. The quotient set E/RE/\mathcal{R} is the set of equivalence classes; the surjection π ⁣:E→E/R\pi \colon E \to E/\mathcal{R}, x↦cl(x)x \mapsto \mathrm{cl}(x), is the canonical projection.

Universal property (factorization): if f ⁣:E→Ff \colon E \to F is compatible with R\mathcal{R} (i.e. xRy  ⟹  f(x)=f(y)x \mathbin{\mathcal{R}} y \implies f(x) = f(y)), there is exactly one map f‾ ⁣:E/R→F\overline f \colon E/\mathcal{R} \to F with f=f‾∘πf = \overline f \circ \pi.
