什么是 Energy expenditure?

Definition 7.1 High School Biology · 第 7 章 — Exercise and the Body’s Energy Needs

The energy expenditure of the body, in joules, is the total energy its cells release from organic molecules over a given time. Divided by the time, it is a metabolic power, in watts. At rest an adult spends about 80 W80\,\mathrm{W} — some 7000 kJ7000\,\mathrm{kJ} a day — to keep the heart beating, the brain working, the temperature at 37 ∘C37\,{}^{\circ}\mathrm{C} and the cells alive; this is the basal metabolism. Every activity adds to it.

示例

Example 7.3 (Daily budgets)

A student sitting in class, walking to school and sleeping spends about 9000 kJ9000\,\mathrm{kJ} a day; an hour of football adds some 2500 kJ2500\,\mathrm{kJ}; a day in the mountains with a pack, 15 000 kJ15\,000\,\mathrm{kJ} in all. A cyclist on a mountain stage of a race spends 25 000 kJ25\,000\,\mathrm{kJ}, and cannot eat enough during the day to cover it. The energy comes from food (Chapter 1): 17 kJ17\,\mathrm{kJ} per gram of carbohydrate or protein, 38 kJ38\,\mathrm{kJ} per gram of lipid.
